The government of Uganda has announced that, with effect from 22nd July 2016, Uganda’s single entry visa will cost US$50 (down from US$100) in a move aimed at promoting tourism.

The good news comes only a few days after the government introduced an online visa application service.

In addition to making travel to Uganda less costly, these developments reduce the amount of paperwork and the amount of time spent in queues on arrival at Entebbe International Airport or any other entry points.

According to a statement issued by the Internal Affairs Ministry on 21st July, a statutory instrument has been issued to effect the changes in single entry visa fees.

Uganda issues other types of tourist visas, including multiple and transit permits. The fees for these visas have not been revised. The decision to slash single entry fees was reached after a request by officials from Uganda Tour Operators.

“All people seeking to enter Uganda shall pay $50 instead of $100. All Ugandan borders have been notified to effect the change,” reads the statement from the Internal Affairs Ministry.
