The Historical visit to the source of the river Nile, starts with a drive through the old Jinja town, ride past Hindu temples, old schools and Jinja Golf course.

You will finally get to this open green expanse and take a walk down past colorful African craft shops. You will meet the site guides who are born from this area and nobody tells the story better than they do!

Have a detailed briefing and information about this famous site. Ask any questions and feel free to walk around for a feel of general hospitality and ambience. Get your life jackets on and board a traditional motorized boat that will take you on a short ride to the point where the river Nile starts her three-month 6,696-kilometer journey to the Mediterranean Sea. Listen to the guide and take beautiful photos for everlasting memories!

According to John Speke, one of the greatest British explorers, the Nile originates from this point, flows through four other countries before finally dropping into the sea at the northeast corner of Africa. Such an amazing journey!

After the boat ride, you will trace your footsteps through the craft shops, pick some beautiful handmade souvenirs at very good prices. Most of the crafts here are handmade on site by the local ladies and men whose livelihoods solely relies on selling a few pieced a day. When you buy some crafts, you are directly supporting and helping so many families in the value chain.

You will then be guided to the lush green area, famous for hosting one of the world’s most charismatic figures — Mahatma Gandhi. The father of the Indian nation rests on a raised brown plinth, an artfully rendered bronze bust that bestows a calming tranquility in an otherwise busy environment. This monument stands not only as a tribute to Gandhi’s great work in Africa, but also as a reminder of his decision to have a portion of his ashes sprinkled in the Nile in 1948. Take a walk, get the story and enjoy the historical photography moment!

You may have a local lunch by the Nile and the dishes here wouldn’t miss the tilapia – the main resident of the Lake Victoria waters. In most cases, it will be deep fried or boiled fish, served with locally cooked favorites. There are continental dish options, so the choice is yours!

If you are a fun of local beers, do not miss Uganda’s Nile special which is brewed by the shores of the river Nile!

After lunch/In the afternoon, you may either transfer back to your hotel in Jinja, or start a 3 hours’ journey to Kampala.
