Effective 26th May 2023, visitors including children above 5 years (where applicable) no longer require to provide a negative COVID-19 test before visiting all National parks in Rwanda. Since the outbreak of the pandemic three years ago, there have been a number of restrictions to cab the spread of the virus. Among other guidelines was the requirement to carry out covid-19 tests taken 72 hours before visiting the National Parks.

A communication made on the official Rwanda Development Board Twitter handle on the morning of 26th May 2023 indicates that a negative COVID-19 test is no longer a requirement for visiting any of the country’s four National Parks (Volcanoes, Nyungwe Forest, Akagera and Gishwati-Mukura National Parks).

However, wearing of Face Marks will still be mandatory for travelers undertaking primate tracking (Gorilla trekking, Golden monkey tracking, or Chimpanzee tracking).
