With Rwanda phasing out the manufacture, use, and consumption of polyethylene bags in 2008, the issue of minimizing plastic waste during safaris and day-to-day lives has become much more conventional. Travelers exploring Rwanda are not only encouraged to reduce the “throwaway” mentality, but also minimize plastic use while on trips.
Against this backdrop, Akagera National Park management took a very good move to ban single-use plastic items in the Park premises. These single-use plastics or disposable plastics include wrappers, straws, bottles, bags, and other packaging materials. For this reason, travelers are called upon to support this move and help maintain the cleanliness and natural greenness of the Protected Area.
As sustainable tourism partnerS, Adventure Consults is committed such measures of reducing plastic footprint through various ways.
While on safari with Adventure Consults, we provide visitors with clean, high-quality reusable water bottles. We understand that access to safe drinking water is key hence we ensure it’s provided with very minimal impact on the environment. Each bottle is given individual client’s and Adventure Consults’ logo.
Our guides use reusable shopping bag/s hence reducing the need to use plastic bags. We encourage the same for clients.
Encouraging visitors to trade off travel toothbrushes for biodegradable bamboo toothbrushes, which are hand made from sustainably harvested wood hence providing an eco-friendlier alternative to plastic toothbrushes.
We provide quality reusable cups during bush breakfast and tea/coffee breaks while on road trips.
Encouraging our partners to “say no” to plastic straws, and opting for bamboo straws or No straws at all.
Our approach to tourism ensures minimal negative impact in order to protect the fragile environments we operate in.
