Dr Gladys’ participation will entirely depend on her schedule/availability, so advance booking is recommended.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a home to more than half the world’s remaining population of mountain gorillas, and it’s where Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka goes to work. She’s been studying animal diseases for over 15 years and is known as the Uganda’s Dian Fossey
You will have the chance to observe mountain gorillas in their own backyard and learn about the struggles surrounding their survival from Dr. Gladys, who has dedicated her life to preserving these incredible species. Tracking gorillas is a fraction of Gladys’ work. You will get insight info about the health of Gorillas, collect samples that will be used on day 3 for analysis. Gorilla tracking with CTPH staff is a special experience as you get more than just Gorilla viewing!

Day 3: Community Program/Field researcher Experience.

Next to Bwindi forest, CTPH has a Gorilla Health Centre where all professional takes place. Together with Dr Gladys or one of her contemporaries, you will have a day in the life of a Gorilla field researcher. Analyze the Gorilla dung collected from the nests of the previous day’s track to establish the health of the family. The dung analysis is a big part of the work done by the researchers to establish gorilla health of the family. Visit the frontline communities that directly come in contact with the gorilla families, the gorillas not only eat what is in their gardens but also come into contact with human diseases that can be transmitted to the families. The only long-term and sustainable method to improve the gorillas’ health is by improving the health of the people living around the park, and not just the people, but their livestock as well.
